We had been talking about a skiing weekend for a long time and eventually decided
to just do it, especially since we hadn't done very much during July, we owed it
to ourselves. So on Friday the 28th, we left for Mt Ruapehu straight after work
and after negotiating some terrible Auckland traffic, we eventually arrived (about
4.5 hours later) in a small town in the middle of the North Island called Turangi
and booked ourselves into the Sportsman's Lodge. The next morning it was another
40 minute drive to the mountain. Along the way we were greeted by Mt Ngauruhoe which was
Mount Doom in the movie "The Lord of the Rings". On Saturday morning we did a skiing
lesson which left us the afternoon and Sunday to do some skiing. I had a great time
and enjoyed it very much, as did Ingrid, but I don't think that she feels its exactly
her thing. We made our way back on Sunday afternoon via Lake Taupo. We could have
got better photos of the scenery because Saturday morning was fantastic weather - unfortunately on Sunday you couldn't see much,
but we did manage to get some of us in our skiing gear.
